Twelve 350kW chargers at MOTO’s new Rugby services offer a taste of the future.

The Electric Highway – the world’s first nationwide charging network, has today opened the UK’s largest high power motorway charging site, a development it promises will become ubiquitous as it transforms its network of facilities on the country’s motorways and major roads.  

The installation is the first under the Electric Highway’s new partnership with GRIDSERVE, which saw the company take a 25% stake in the Highway – as well as bringing its acclaimed technology and expertise to the network.  

The Electric Highway’s flagship motorway installation is open now at MOTO’s brand-new Rugby services at Junction 1 of the M6. The new facility includes 12 state-of-of-the-art high-powered pumps from Tritium, able to charge any EV at 350kW – adding up to 350 km (217 mi) of range to an EV in 10 minutes or less. All of these chargers are contactless.

As part of the major Electric Highway transformation programme – funded by GRIDSERVE investor Hitachi Capital (UK) PLC – all existing 50kW pumps will be replaced this summer while in parallel, work has begun on high power installations across its entire network.

Osprey Charging Network has installed the first Tritium RTM75 rapid chargers in Europe, at a new Starbucks site in Gosport, UK. These chargers provide up to 75kW of charge to an electric vehicle (EV).

[LONDON, UK, April 29, 2021] — Tritium, a global leader in DC rapid charging technology for EVs, and Osprey Charging Network have just installed the first RTM75 chargers in Europe.

The Tritium RTM75 units were installed by Osprey in partnership with Harkalm in Gosport at their new Starbucks site operated by 23.5 Degrees Ltd. Osprey will be installing a mix of Tritium’s DC units at future sites, ranging from 75kW to 350kW.

New service will launch next month in lower Manhattan with an initial fleet of 50 Teslas. Revel’s rideshare program will help accelerate the buildout of its fast-charging Superhubs.

[NEW YORK, NY, April 28, 2021] – Electric mobility company Revel announced today that it is launching an all-electric, all-employee rideshare service in New York City. The service will launch in late May in Manhattan, with a fleet of 50 Revel-blue Teslas available for pickups and dropoffs below 42nd Street. These 50 vehicles represent the first phase of the rideshare program, and Revel will expand the fleet size and service area in the next year to meet New Yorkers’ need for zero-emissions rideshare. Revel’s rideshare service will also help the company accelerate the buildout of its fast-charging Superhub network in New York City.

“Cities like New York don’t need another company promising electric fleets in 2030 – they need companies delivering now,” said Revel CEO and Co-Founder Frank Reig. “Revel is building a platform to electrify cities, and rideshare is a key part of it.”

Unlike the traditional rideshare model, the Revel fleet will be owned and maintained by the company, with drivers brought on as employees rather than independent contractors. Drivers will receive training and will have access to benefits including health care and paid time off.

Revel’s fleet of Tesla Model Ys will have distinct features like extra legroom, with the front passenger seat removed from each car, and the ability for passengers to control the temperature and music through an interactive touchscreen. All cars will follow the same COVID-19 guidelines, with a partition separating the driver from the passenger(s) and daily cleanings by the Revel team. Even with these upgraded features, pricing for Revel’s service will be competitive with other rideshare companies.

In addition to offering New Yorkers a zero-emissions rideshare option, Revel’s service will help the company accelerate the expansion of its EV fast-charging Superhub network in New York City.  Revel announced in February that it will soon open the largest universal fast charging depot in North America, with its first location in Brooklyn. The chargers for this site, provided by Tritium, a global leader in DC fast charging, will be open to the public on a 24/7 basis and accessible to owners of any electric vehicle brand. This Superhub will go live in June with its first 10 chargers, and more locations across New York City are planned for 2021.

Cohort to Focus on Bringing Electric Power Technology and Infrastructure to Army Vehicles.

[TORRANCE, California, April 27, 2021] – Tritium, a global leader in DC fast charging technology for electric vehicles (EVs), today announced that it has been selected to participate in the Power Transfer Cohort, powered by the Army Applications Laboratory (AAL) in collaboration with Alion Science and Technology. This program focuses on advancing solutions that will support remote access, rapid recharging, and scalable infrastructure to help the Army move to EVs. Tritium is the only DC fast charging provider which was selected for the program.

Companies in the Cohort will work directly with the Next Generation Combat Vehicle Cross Functional Team (NGCV) and the Ground Vehicle Systems Center (GVSC) to identify and explore EV infrastructure technologies that can work across the diverse fleet of ~225,000 Army vehicles operating in the most demanding environments.

Designed for qualified companies that may not typically work on U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) projects, the Cohort Program provides non-dilutive funding to complete an intense program that culminates in a concept design presentation to Army stakeholders. Each cohort focuses on solving a specific problem aligned to the Army’s 16-year modernization strategy. The Power Transfer Cohort is an 8-week program, and each company selected to participate receives a contract for $100,000 with the potential for follow-on awards.

“Last year, we launched and validated this new Cohort Program approach. We know it works, and we’re already seeing the results for our Army mission partners,” said COL Len Rosanoff, director of AAL. “The Power Transfer Cohort is a chance to show that this model can scale across the Army to solve other complex problems. This approach will make the Army a better business partner for industry. And we want others in the Army to know they can do this, too.”

Last fall, Tritium unveiled their Modular Scalable Charging (MSC) platform, the first to enable truly scalable EV charging networks anywhere in the world. The hardware platform provides customers with the flexibility to increase the power level of their charger as EV charging capabilities advance, starting at 25kW and increasing to 350kW and beyond.

The Power Transfer Cohort began virtually on March 29, 2021, and is scheduled to conclude with concept design presentations to NGCV leadership on May 20, 2021.

The update allows an electric vehicle (EV) that supports Plug and Charge and Tritium’s RT50 chargers to communicate seamlessly and authorise payments directly from the driver’s account without needing a card or RFID tag.

Tritium and Peel NRE have partnered to install the first DC rapid charger at Straiton Retail Park in Scotland. The RT50 charging station will support local business and provide a necessary charging amenity at the Peel L&P Retail Park site at Straiton Mains, off the A702/City of Edinburgh corridor.

The recent deployment is part of a larger rollout by Peel L&P, with another batch of retail locations planned later in 2021. This DC rapid charger installation is also part of Drive Energi network, a new joint venture between Peel NRE and Box Energi to build, own, and operate one of the largest retail-located rapid charging networks in the UK.

“Tritium has been working in close cooperation with Peel NRE to deliver the latest DC fast charging solutions, addressing the needs of retail locations with easy-to-use, reliable, seamless, and convenient charging experiences for customers,” said Kevin Pugh, Tritium Country Manager, UK. 

The new installation will be located at Straiton Retail Park’s The Terrace, a recently opened £13 million development with 25,500 square feet of retail space.

Trevor St Baker will tonight be awarded an honorary Doctor of Engineering from the University of Queensland, recognising his lifelong contribution to the Australian electricity sector and greater Australian community through his business and philanthropic efforts.

Mr St Baker established one of Australia’s first private electricity generation and retail companies, ERM Power, and today invests in a rapidly growing portfolio of disruptive energy and electric transport businesses via the St Baker Energy Innovation Fund.

His wholly owned company, Evie Networks, is rolling out electric vehicle charging stations from Cairns to South Australia and Mr St Baker is chair and the largest shareholder in the global, electric vehicle fast-charging manufacturer, Tritium.

Mr St Baker, via his innovation fund, has also invested in: a battery anode materials company; an electric trike business in the Philippines; a US manufacturer of breakthrough printed lights; a light-based, wearable medical device company; and a manufacturer of printed batteries for powering small, “Internet of Things” devices. 

Mr St Baker is also the driving force behind Delta Electricity, an important, baseload electricity generator in the National Electricity Market.

University of Queensland Executive Dean of Engineering Professor Vicki Chen described Mr St Baker as a “towering figure” in the electricity sector.

“Mr St Baker’s role breaking new ground in the energy sector over more than 50 years has benefitted the entire industry and the nation,” Professor Chen said.

“His work has supported innovation in our field, seen electricity supplies become more secure across the nation, and created thousands of jobs in technology, engineering and energy.

“As well as being a forward-thinking businessperson, Trevor and his wife Judith have made significant contributions to skin cancer research, technology, the arts, and Indigenous education through their philanthropic work.”

Mr St Baker, who was awarded the Officer of the Order of Australia in 2016 for his distinguished service as a leader and executive in the energy sector, said he was humbled by the honorary doctorate and hoped to continue disrupting the industry to create positive change.

“We are in the midst of a global shift in energy technology and management, bringing challenges and opportunities in equal measure,” Mr St Baker said.

“It is rewarding to see the young talent that is coming out of programs like engineering at UQ with new ideas and strong ideals, and I am honored to be able to stand up in front of tomorrow’s energy leaders and accept this award.”
